PostSubject: TFN Developers need your help!!   Fri Jul 23, 2010 9:55 am

Hello VTMB Community,

Scarecrow, Childe of Malkav, and myself need your help to meet our release deadline. The three of us have been tirelessly working on TFN since March and could really use some bright upstarts to help us with a specific task. You see we are in the process of creating fully voiced and interactive NPCs never before seen just for this project. This has however come to a great delay in time because of one specific task.

Scarecrow, our writer and voice actor has done a splendid job writing dialogue lines and speaking/recording them with his sound equipment. With that he has created about 30 .mp3 files that need to be synchronized with our NPC's lips so that when the NPC speaks, he lips move according to what you hear.

It's not a complicated process but extremely time consuming to get it right. We've been working on these .lip files for about a month and a half and have only scratched the surface on what needs to be done before we can release TFN 1.0.

Because TFN is by the community for the community, I thought I'd give a shout out to anyone who knows how to setup these lip files or who would be willing to learn. I will confess that it's boring, tedius work, it's not fun, but it's obviously necessary to release TFN. I would think 3-5 volunteers would be plenty to help get us back on track so the TFN developement team can start working on other things like new quests, new skins, new dialogues, etc...

Anyone willing to dedicate hours of their time to boring, redundant work in the name of a greater project, please let us know. Also know that your name will be included in the official TFN game manual in the team credits as a participating member. If you are interested feel free to post here or leave me a Private Message and we can get you started.

We'd prefer people who already know how to do this, or who have read Dheu's Bloodlines Modding Manual but if you are a dedicated hardcore VtM/TFN fan who really wants in on this, you are more than welcome to learn. Scarecrow and I both know the ins and outs of settings up lip files so don't hestitate to ask us for help.

Here is a copy of Dheu's manual...

Well lip synchronization can't be done by a program, it must be done by hand, one syllabel at a time. This is why it takes so long, believe me if there was a way to accurately automate this, I would use it.

Best program I've found for sound editing, so you can track the starting a stopping points of a syllabel, is called Audacity. Audacity allows you to highlight a syllabel, then will tell you at the bottom the length of time used.

Example: WORD the
240 dh 1.000 0
601 ax 1.000 0

You would highlight the "Th" part first, then plugin the numbers found in Audacity that you highlighted. Pretend its 0.324 - 0.454. Now you need to highlight the "uhhh" syllable in the word "The". Pretend its 0.454 - 0.534.

You would then plug in those numbers to synchronize the word "The" with the .mp3 sound file. So it would look like this...

Example: WORD the
240 dh 0.324 0.454 1.000 0
601 ax 0.454 0.534 1.000 0

Thats a complete word that has been synchronized properly, so when you open the game and speak to the NPC, from 0.324 to 0.534 he will mouth the word "The", and you will hear it simultaneously.

Make sense?

You can download Audacity here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

PS: That Di-o-matic program looks interesting, I wonder if the output would be compatible with Bloodlines lip files? I'll check it out...

I've never done it before. I get the idea of loading the sound files into Audacity and marking sound points... but about the only VTMB internals I've ever touched were modifying weapons specs and such. I did once modify a class of vampire but only once and I barely remember it.

If someone can walk me through it once that would be good. And how would you test it to make sure it (visually) really does align?
